Given the angel statues, plague, kidnappers, evil teddy bears and other crises they'd had to deal with, it was hard to believe it had only been two years, Isabel thought as she set things up for that evening's date. Fortunately, other then random weirdness, things had been pretty quiet since they'd left Fandom. That thought that caused immediate facepalming, because wow, jinx much?

Since it was Vegas there were certainly more exciting ways to spend the evening, but Isabel figured a picnic under the stars that recreated their first date would be more romantic and hopefully make up for how busy she'd been with school and work the last few weeks.

After setting up the blankets and double checking the contents of the coolers, Isabel stretched out on the blanket with her management book to study while she waited for Wyatt to arrive.

Demons tried to conspire to make Wyatt late, but he managed to vanquish them and turn in a paper on time. All in all a good day, and about to get better. He orbed over to meet Isabel right on time. "Hey, gorgeous," he said.

Wyatt's arrival was perfect timing. Another five minutes and Isabel would have dozed off face first into her book.

"Hey handsome," she smiled as she sat up and set the book aside. "How was your day? Did you get the paper done?"

Wyatt settled on the blanket beside her. "Paper done, demons vanquished, now I'm all yours," he said.

Isabel immediately moved closer and leaned against his shoulder. "I don't suppose you'd vanquish my management prof would you? Because having a paper due at the same time as a midterm next week is pretty damn evil."

Wyatt wrapped an arm around her. "Definitely sounds evil and demony. I'll check him out. Or her."

"It's a him. Cranky old goat." If she caught his eyes drifting to her chest one more time, low profile or not, Isabel was going to to TK him into a wall.

"But the good news is that all this work now means I won't have much to worry about during Homecoming. I'll be able to relax and enjoy seeing everyone."

Not if Wyatt TK'd him first.

"Oh, that's right, Homecoming," Wyatt said, pretending he'd forgotten. "You're planning on going?"

"I don't know," she replied, playing along. "I mean it's a tough choice. Old friends, dancing, and a carnival versus staying here and dealing with a bunch of insurance salesmen."

Isabel sighed heavily. "How am I ever going to survive?"

"I don't know," Wyatt said. "It's not like you won't have a bunch of pretty gay boys to shower you with attention there." He paused, then added, "And I don't mean my alternate self."

"Shush!" Isabel shuddered, visions of last year's weirdness flashing through her head. "Don't say anything that could possibly invite wackiness of any sort down on us."

"You do have a point though. There's a few people I need to catch up with."

"I suppose I can go with you," Wyatt said with a mock put-upon sigh. He just hoped nothing like last year happened.

If anything as horrific as last year happened, Isabel was never going back to the island again.

"You will?" Isabel grinned happily. "Now I know why I've kept you around for so long."

Ronan flirted with anyone with a heartbeat. "Yeah, you keep telling yourself that."

"And stop the amusing banter? That takes all the fun out of it." Denial, it wasn't just a river in Egypt. "Besides, Gawain sort of proves my point. Even if it is another reality."

Isabel dissolved into giggles at that particular memory. "Yes, that's right. The ever so intimidating...Fork."

She had to point out the bright side. "At least you didn't sparkle? That automatically gives you points on the vampire coolness scale."

Wyatt snorted. "Yeah, there's that at least," he said. "Not to mention if I acted like that creep in those books you'd kick my ass."

"Oh god," Isabel sighed. "I had this conversation with someone in the library the other day. I'm sorry but sneaking into someone's room to watch them sleep is not romantic. It's stalking. What's sad though, is that he reminds me of how Max used to lurk around the Crashdown just to watch Liz back when the whole alien thing was still a big secret."

"At least he didn't knock her up with alien spawn that had to be chewed out of her?" Wyatt said helpfully. This was such a romantic conversation now, really.
