izzyalienqueen | Room 406, early afternoon

Even though she'd only been gone a week Fandom time, Isabel was cleaning her room like it really had been left closed up for six months. Reorganizing drawers and closets, scouring the bathroom, dusting every available surface, meant she didn't have to think about last night's conversation, or the worried voicemails and emails from her parents she's avoiding answering. It meant she could pretend she wasn't woken up by nightmares this morning.

The door was open, the radio was blaring the Rolling Stones, and Isabel was on her hands and knees in the bathroom, attacking the grout with a toothbrush.

"I'm okay. A little jet-lagged more then anything," Isabel shrugged. "I'm still trying to get used to the idea that I'm back here."

"Yes, it didn't sound like you intended to come back," she says. "But this is good, right?"

"Yes and no. I'm glad to be home, but Max and Michael are still there. And more then likely they don't know what's happened to me," she explained. "So they're going to worry."

Aeryn frowns, assuming, "So this wasn't a planned return."

"No. I just got lucky and wound up in a situation where someone was able to get me back here." Isabel found one of Annie's toys and dangled it in front of the cat. "Otherwise I'd still be there."

"Do you want to talk about it?" she asks.

"I don't know. I'm still trying to process everything." Annie batted at the toy and Isabel smiled. "It wasn't like what I expected."

"That happens," she says, but she doesn't want to push too hard. "Bad?"

"Yeah," Isabel said quietly. "Bad."

"I'm sorry," Aeryn says, just as quietly. "Are there plans to go back at all?"

"Max and Michael are still there. If I could find away, I'd go back. But it'll involve more then just finding a ship and taking off." She took a deep breath and looked up a Aeryn. "I was actually gone six months."

She tries not to look too surprised at that. "Which alone makes a return trip complicated," she says.

"Just a bit," Isabel sighed. "Somewhere out there, I'm just starting to deal with all of it. It hurts my brain to think about it."

"Fandom's usually good for taking your mind off things like that," she says. "At least for a while, until you can deal."

"Yeah, the whole idea of Poseidon being here in town is kind of boggling," she agreed. "Welcome home, we've been invaded by the Sea King."

Aeryn has no idea what that means, but she can take Fandom at face value by now. "I saw a seal with coffee yesterday. That doesn't happen anywhere else."

"Exactly."

There was a thud as a large fish slammed against the window, then slowly slid down. Isabel shrugged, "Case in point."

"I'm going to pretend I didn't hear a thing," Aeryn decides quickly.

"That's probably for the best," she said. "So where were you? Did you take a trip for the weekend?"

She nods. "John and I went to visit his father," she says. "It was better than I'd expected, actually."

"Really? That's great. I'm glad for you," she said sincerely.

"Things go right every once in a while," she says, just as sincerely.

"You guys deserve it," Isabel smiled. "I'm really glad I got back before you left."

"So am I," she says. "And luckily with enough time that it isn't one goodbye after another."

"After last Sunday? I think I'm going to drink myself into a stupor for the month of May," she sighed. "It's going to be hard to say good-bye. But still, you guys aren't going too far."
