izzyalienqueen | Room 406, early afternoon

Even though she'd only been gone a week Fandom time, Isabel was cleaning her room like it really had been left closed up for six months. Reorganizing drawers and closets, scouring the bathroom, dusting every available surface, meant she didn't have to think about last night's conversation, or the worried voicemails and emails from her parents she's avoiding answering. It meant she could pretend she wasn't woken up by nightmares this morning.

The door was open, the radio was blaring the Rolling Stones, and Isabel was on her hands and knees in the bathroom, attacking the grout with a toothbrush.

Sam recognized the look on Isabel's face and tried not to sigh audibly. "Yeah, it's like that sometimes, no matter how short a time you've been gone. I'd recommend a hobby that'll keep your brain and hands busy, no matter what it is."

"Cleaning helps. In the battle of Isabel versus the grout, I think I won," Isabel smiled. "And I've had visitors so that's a nice distraction. Of course that only counts when I don't have to beat them."

"I might have thwapped Jack a bit. But he deserved it!" she said.

Sam facepalmed. "He did. I can't argue with that."

"Fortunately they've made up. Cedric stopped by earlier," Isabel smiled.

"They have?" Sam asked, looking more cheerful. Isabel's news was more current than hers. "Thank goodness."

"They have. And I definitely agree with you. The idea of the two of them being unhappy with each other is just wrong," she said.

Sam couldn't explain the dynamics of the relationship she shared with Jack and, to some extent, Cedric, but she had definitely felt its effects. "They need each other more than they know, I think."

"They do. Absolutely," Isabel nodded. "So what else have I missed while I was vacationing off planet?"

Sam grinned, but the blush was automatic. "Did Jack tell you about being a girl for the day?"

"He did, yes." It took Isabel a moment to realize what the blush meant and then she grinned. "Had some fun with that did you?"

Sam mastered her expression, but again, not the blush. "What?"

"Nevermind," Isabel chuckled. "Any answer would probably be getting into TMI territory."

"It's Jack," Sam grinned, "What else would it be. But enough about that. Did you say Captain Jack brought you back here? How's he doing?"

"He did," she nodded. "He's doing well. He was very kind."

Sam wasn't so sure that was doing well for Captain Jack. Very kind wasn't really his personality. "And he took care of you when you landed?"

"I didn't land so much as fall. Did you know there's a rift through space and time that runs through Cardiff?" Isabel asked. "I sort of fell through it."

Sam winced. She hadn't known about the rift, and was torn between wanting to call the SGC to warn them and wanting to call Captain Jack and interrogate him. "Are you alright? That can't have been an easy landing."

"I was out cold. He found me and brought me back to his office," she shrugged. "I woke up and found myself on a comfy couch, covered with a blanket."

"Do you have any idea how far through space and time you fell?" She reached over and hugged Isabel again.

"I have no idea about space but time-wise?" Isabel sighed, "About six months."

"That long?" Sam asked, maybe more startled than she should have been. "Was it bad?"

"It was. But it's over now. Mostly." Or at least it would be when she finally got rid of the tattoo. "I think I just need a little more time to process it."
